Art Space

The Royal/T art space showcases curated exhibitions from Hancock's collection. A changing program rotates every six months, providing an opportunity for a varied selection of related curatorial exhibits and events.

The Warholian Effect: Photos, Film, Portraits and Objects, will open August 4th, 2010 curated by Eric Shiner of the Andy Warhol Museum. On November 20th, 2009, Royal/T opened, “In Bed Together”, an exhibit curated by Jane Glassman featuring 50 works by 50 different artists. In March 2009, Royal/T unveiled an exhibition entitled, “I Can't Feel My Face,” featuring works by over 25 artists that explore the theme of contemporary portraiture as a vehicle of inherent emotive expression. This exhibition is guest-curated by New York-based artist KAWS.

In August 2008, Royal/T’s second show, “All of This is Melting Away,” was curated by Jay Sanders, the Director of New York's Greene Naftali Gallery, and focused on the reductive aspect of transformation and disappearance. “Just Love Me,” the opening exhibition in December 2007, explored the complexity of cuteness, and the yearning it reveals in artistic expression today.

During the day, Royal/T is open to school art programs allowing staff members to speak to students about the artwork on display and its influence on popular culture—namely the widespread popularity of Japanese animation in the United States. In the evening, the venue hosts special events promoting culturally diverse institutions, in addition to a series of fundraisers for local and non-profit arts organizations.
